Super Moon

If you can drag yourself away from Sunday night television and go outside and look up; you may just see the Super Moon larger than life, hanging in the night sky.  Between the hours of 1am and 4am the Moon will appear red in colour as the Earth’s shadow falls onto the Moon, an event that will not happen for quite a while over the UK.

I photographed it earlier using a Fuji XT10 with an 80-400mm Nikon lens with a Sigma 2x convertor attached with an Ebay Fuji to Nikon connecter making the whole set up something close to 900mm.

I then turned the moon red in colour as it may appear later tonight.

I photographed Jonny Wilkinson, a few weeks ago and as the Rugby World Cup is upon us, I’ve been thinking about all the rugby I’ve photographed over the years and  how I’ve never meet a horrible rugby player.

I’ve been held up on photo calls and signings by football players and I’ve even been told to ‘F off’ by a pro cricketer at a team shoot but In all my 30 year career I’ve never meet a rude rugby player.

I covered Gloucester RFC for seven years and Bristol and Bath RFC for over 15 including more local games at grass roots level than I’ve had hot dinners.

Anytime I’ve been off pitch with them at feature shoots or photo calls they have been more than happy to go along with your ideas and have always been interested in the cause or person they are there to meet.

I covered Bristol Rugby during their darkest hours when the club was going through a bad patch and the press were all over the players like a rash and even then they were no trouble.

So the old saying ‘football is a gentleman’s game played by ruffians and rugby is a ruffian’s game played by gentlemen’ maybe true.
